Trustees’ Ball raises £18,000 for The Botanical Gardens

Renowned gardener Monty Don joined Trustees and 350 of their guests to raise a staggering £18,000 at Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ inaugural Trustee’s Ball.

The charity ball was held in the newly refurbished event suites at the Gardens where guests enjoyed an after dinner speech from Monty and live music from The Glamophones and King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys.

The evening also saw the announcement of Monty Don becoming a Patron of Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

Martyn Liberson, chairman of the trustees, said: “We are so pleased that Monty felt able to become a Patron as we know this patronage will help us to continue to raise the profile of the Gardens and aid us in achieving our £1million fundraising target.
“We have found that many people believe the gardens to be publically funded, when in fact we are an educational charity with no public funding. The ball was the launch of our new fundraising initiative and will be followed up with other new schemes such as sponsoring a pane of glass in our glasshouses or one of our 2,000 trees.
