Hemerocallis ‘Alabama Jubilee’

Plant of the month: January

The Terrace

This Day Lily can be found on the Terrace.

This day lily with huge burnt orange flowers is a real stunner; it will carry on flowering for weeks. Each flower lasts one day but they are produced abundantly not just on this day lily but on all day lilies.

Hemerocallis are sometimes evergreen and sometimes semi evergreen, much can depend on the winter, they are herbaceous perennials with deep green strap like leaves and over 30,00 cultivars have been named. The flowers range in colour from pale yellow to deepest red. Many different Hemerocallis can be seen around the Gardens.

They should be grown in fertile, well-drained soil in sun, dry conditions with excessive shade will reduce flowering. They should be divided every couple of years to remain their vigour.
