Volunteers

Could you offer at least a half a day a week?

Could you offer a minimum commitment of 6 months?

Are you available on a weekday?

Opportunities for volunteer work at the Gardens may arise in the following areas:

  • General gardening, outdoor work
  • General gardening - glasshouses
  • Nursery work - potting and planting
  • Aviaries
  • Plant records
  • Plant sales
  • The library
  • The offices
  • Education and the Study Centre
  • Interpretation - photography, labelling, explanation

Volunteers play a very important role in caring for the Gardens and we offer a very warm welcome. We currently have about 40 people coming in to all parts of the Gardens on a regular basis.

Volunteers are attached to a member of staff and are supervised at all times.

Volunteers are invited to coffee mornings which are held on the first Wednesday of the month. This provides a chance to talk to other volunteers, to hear about what is happening in the Gardens, and sometimes to hear from a member of staff or visit a different part of the Gardens. In addition there is an annual outing and a Christmas dinner!

If you are interested you will need to fill in a short application form. Suitable applicants are invited in for an informal chat, and you would then be invited to attend a half-day induction session including a tour of the Gardens before starting work.
