With its former life as the ballroom for the Gardens, access to the grounds, abundant natural daylight and romantic ambience, the Terrace Suite lends itself perfectly to weddings. Following a ceremony in Walmley, Steph and Tony hosted their joyful reception in the space, a day that they describe as “truly amazing”.
The couple have been together for almost seven years, having met in a bar in Sutton Coldfield when Steph was having a girl’s night out. In a playful mood, Steph stole Tony’s scarf and made him play a game of “piggy in the middle” before she would return it. The pair thought they would never see each other again, as Steph was soon to head to Italy for the ski season. But six months later, their paths crossed again, once more in a Sutton Coldfield bar. This time they had no intention of going their separate ways. Lovers of the outdoors, who got engaged in the Lake District, Steph and Tony found their perfect venue match in the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
Their reception began with a sparkling prosecco Kir Royale reception, accompanied with a selection of our chef’s favourite canapés, and a chance to capture some treasured photographs in the stunning surroundings. Even in the rain, the joy of this effervescent couple and the beauty of the settings shine through in their gorgeous pictures.
Time flew by and soon guests were settled in the Terrace Suite for their wedding breakfast.
Working with our chefs, the couple had created a tailor-made menu with a Mediterranean/Italian theme. This delicious three course meal consisted of a crushed new potato and chorizo stack starter, followed by supreme of chicken with a risotto cake and vegetable ratatouille. Dessert was vanilla panna cotta, topped with a compote of seasonal berries and accompanied by ginger and lime biscuits.
Evening guests had a disco, band and sax player to look forward to, as well as a hearty evening buffet to ensure there were no excuses to avoid the dancefloor. With a late licence, Steph and Tony and their friends were able to party into the small hours, and by all accounts, a wonderful time was had all round
