Edgeworthia chrysantha can be found in the Winter Border.

This deciduous shrub can reach 1.5 metres in height has gorgeous clusters of fragrant yellow flowers.

The flowers are covered with fine silky hairs and were used in Japan to produce high-quality paper to turn into bank notes, hence its common name of ‘Paper Bush’.

There is a cultivar of this shrub called E. chrysantha ‘Red Dragon’ which has the most beautiful bright red flowers. If you ever see one to buy, snap it up and send the Gardens some cuttings please!

This shrub is not fully hardy so plant it with some shelter in a well drained rich loamy soil in full sun or light dappled shade.
