Rhododendron Walk

Rhododendron Walk is enclosed by a high beech hedge over 100 years old. This creates the sheltered, moist environment suitable for growing rhododendrons and other plants from the cool mountain areas of Asia. The flowers are at their peak in May: decorative foliage and flowering plants provide colour and interest throughout the remainder of the year. At the lower end of the walk, small springs meet to form a watery glade filled with plants requiring wet conditions including the giant Gunnera manicata, the yellow spathes of skunk cabbage Lysichiton americanus and ostrich fern Matteucia struthiopteris.
