Head of Operations

The role of Head of Operations is a crucial position within the Birmingham Botanical Gardens (BBG, registered charity number 528981). This is a permanent position with the post holder reporting to the CEO as an active member of the Senior Management Team. The post will work closely with the Head of Finance and the Development Director to drive forward the ambitious future of the charity.

This position is a new senior role within BBG and will be responsible for achieving targets for annual operating income from visitors, membership, retail and events, together with measuring and raising overall visitor satisfaction.

Chair of Trustees

A Chair is a vital part of any Board of Trustees and we are seeking a new Chair to lead our Board. We are looking for somebody with previous Board experience with strong leadership ability and effective communication skills, who has practical experience in overseeing changes in the fundraising profile and activities of a charity.

The responsibilities of the Chair include providing strategic leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees; representing the charity and acting as a spokesperson where appropriate; optimising the relationship between the Board and the charity’s staff; and effectively chairing and facilitating Board meetings with clear time management.

Minute Secretary

We’re looking to recruit a Minute Secretary to support the Board of Trustees at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The successful applicant will attend and record the minutes of the meetings of the Board of Trustees.  The Committee meets 8 times a year, and at other times as necessary.  Meetings usually take place at the Gardens and occasionally via zoom at 6 pm on the fourth Monday of the month.

This is a paid position and it is envisaged that the successful applicant will work for a minimum of 6 hours per month over a period of 8 months and at other times if and when the Board needs them to do so.

The successful applicant will be literate, numerate, able to make accurate records of meetings and prepared to sign a confidentiality agreement.  A Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check is a requirement for this post.  The DBS check will be funded by the Gardens if necessary.
