Would you like to join the board of Trustees?
We are looking for new Trustees to help support the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
Since we opened in 1832 we have relied solely on the support of visitors and donors. Such support goes towards maintaining our Victorian glasshouses, our 15-acres of wonderful gardens and into developing exciting new projects. It also means we can continue to be a valuable resource of horticultural knowledge and pass this legacy down the generations.
As a Trustee, you would play a vital role in shaping the future and the direction of the Gardens, which are a much-loved part of Birmingham’s landscape and heritage. We are looking for enthusiastic, inspiring, passionate and experienced candidates with a wide range to skills and who are happy to help deliver the core ethos of our charity. The successful candidate will assist in the responsibility and oversight on running our Charity.
As a Trustee, you will be part of a team shaping the future of the Gardens, responsible for the strategic and financial management of the charity, ensuring that our core purpose is carried out and help promote our vision:
A diverse botanical world that enhances all our lives
We are recruiting to bring new talent and expertise to our Board in five key areas:
As our charity grows and develops, we are recruiting a Trustee with a background in charity fundraising at a strategic level to help shape the future of the Gardens.
The role-specific responsibilities for this Trustee include guiding and advising the Board on fundraising strategies and targets; assessing risks in new fundraising directions; and identifying fundraising opportunities.
To guide the charity on marketing techniques, we are seeking a Trustee with previous Board experience and a background in charity marketing at a strategic level.
The role will include keeping the Board informed about its duties and legal responsibilities in relation to marketing and audience development; working alongside other Board members and charity staff to raise the profile of our charity; and supporting the development and implementation of a strategic plan to help us deliver our mission.
A Treasurer is a vital part of any Board of Trustees and are seeking a new Treasurer to join our Board. We are looking for somebody with previous Board experience who has a formal accountancy qualification or significant practical experience in charity finance.
The responsibilities of the Treasurer include providing financial leadership to the organisation; scrutinising budgets and managing accounts and cashflow; preparing financial reports for Trustees; and liaising with any paid staff and volunteers about financial matters.
We are looking for a Company Secretary with previous Board high-level experience to bring experience to our Board of Trustees.
As Company Secretary you would be responsible for ensuring all meetings run smoothly and supporting the overall governance of the charity.
BBG is committed to equality and diversity and wants to ensure that the Board reflects our ambition to be an inclusive and diverse organisation, representative of the communities we serve. We, therefore, welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds.
This is a voluntary unpaid role. Reasonable out of pocket expenses may be covered.
