Leave a legacy to the Gardens

Making a Will is important

Making a will is the best way to ensure your family, dependents and other loved ones are provided for. It is also an opportunity for you to consider making a charitable gift to causes that have been important to you in your lifetime.

Making a Will is easy

Decide who will write your will. We recommend using a solicitor to ensure everything is legal and valid.

If you would like to make a gift to the Gardens in your will, it would be helpful to provide your solicitor with the following information:

  • Our Registered Charity Name: “The Birmingham Botanical and Horticultural Society Limited”
  • Our Registered Charity Number: 528981
  • Our Registered Charity Address: Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Westbourne Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B15 3TR

Remembering the Birmingham Botanical Gardens

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens receives no regular financial support from local or national government funding, so our annual running costs of more than £1.2m are met by membership subscriptions, entrance charges and enterprise initiatives.

All new developments must be paid for through voluntary donations and we spend all the money we raise to maintain and develop the Gardens to a high standard, ensuring it remains an important heritage amenity and educational facility.

All legacy income is spent on new projects, education facilities and developing our extensive plant collection. In recent years we have expanded our education facilities and programme thanks to the generosity of individuals who have remembered the Gardens in their wills.

Our will-writing partner, Thursfields Solicitors, provides expert advice on will drafting. Appointments

If you are interested in making your will or lasting power of attorney through Thursfields, please email them at bbgwills@thursfields.co.uk or phone 01905 677045.  Thursfields has offices across the West Midlands and Worcestershire and will be happy to meet you at any of its offices. Alternatively, the practice could hold a ‘surgery’ at the Gardens for a group of people. This would be arranged in conjunction with the Gardens, with individual, private, pre-booked appointments so that you can make the most of the day.

Shaping the Gardens’ Future

By making a legacy, you can help us expand our education and plant conservation work, maintaining our reputation as a centre of excellence.

What to do

After you have provided for your family and friends, you may have some money that you could leave to The Gardens and we would welcome every gift, large or small. There are two ways in which you can help us:

  • A specific bequest – a sum of money or particular possession.
  • A residual bequest, which is the amount left when all other bequests have been made.

Whichever you choose, your generous gift will ensure the Gardens will be enjoyed for generations to come.

If you would like to know more about how your gift could be used, please telephone 0121 454 1860 and ask to speak to the chief executive. You can also email: admin@birminghambotanicalgardens.org.uk
